On a cold wintery night in Daylesford on our recent road trip from Brisbane to Melbourne, we ended up at the Farmers Arms after a quick check on Urbanspoon. The ratings got us through the door, the atmosphere and food will get us back on future Daylesford visits.Firstly the ambience is really lovely - a wonderful old pub with so much charm. Plenty of places to choose to sit and we ended up in a small room just off the front bar - just wish the fire had been lit - just for charm, it certainly wasn't cold inside.Next up the service - impeccable. Then the food - wow ... what a surprise for what I had expected to be pub-grub. The menu was extensive and really interesting. We started off sharing dumplings which were seriously good. Then I had the beef and guiness pie and hubby had the lamb shanks. Both were absolutely terrific - my pie was tender with plenty of beef and just delicious; hubby's lamb shanks fell from the bone with ease. Both meals were very filling and whilst we looked longingly at the desserts and really wanted to try a couple of the puddings, our belly's just wouldn't allow us. Next time we will forgo the starter and fit in one of those desserts. With a move to Melbourne next year and plans to spend time out in the country in those amazing mineral springs, Daylesford will be on our regular weekend getaway list and the Farmers Arms will see us again for sure.
