The Farmers Arms Daylesford - What a hoot!!

We happened in on the Farmers Arms on a Friday night on the recommendation of the host of our bed and breakfast. It was among handful he suggested as the town's more interesting places.
We are so glad we chose it, because apart from the excellent food and wine list, it was a great experience. The bar and two dining rooms were full, occasionong a wait at the bar for a few minutes until a table was found for us.They were conducting raffles in the bar (very loudly!) and the place was going off with people having fun!!The crowd was an eclectic mix of locals in for a drink and dinner (including school kids still in uniform) and the city types who now flock to Daylesford for weekends.
Orders are taken at the bar and cutlery handed out by staff who seemed to be able to run a tab, take food orders and direct them to the correct table, without appearing to write anything down!
My wife's Lamb Shanks targine with cous cous, apricots and olives was excellent and my Thai style Beef Cheeks with rice was rich, spicy and succulent. The wine list supported the quality of the food and we finished off with a shared marscapone and berries dessert with a sticky wine.
If you are in Daylesford, don't miss the Farmers Arms for the food and atmosphere - I wish there was a place like this in my city suburb!
